The 7th and Final round took place on Tuesday 18 July and saw all the main prizes neatly won with no need for tie-breaks or sharing.
Main Championship
Tim agreed a quick draw with Alun to clinch outright first while Dave, Duncan, Ellison and Kam all won to share Equal 2nd.
1st - 6.0 points - Tim Kett
=2nd - 5.0 points - Alun Smith, Dave Llewellyn, Duncan MacDonald, Ellison Smith, Kam Chooyin
----------------------------------
u1700 Section
Kam's nice win over Suraj lifted him to clear first place overtaking long-time leader Gavin, while newcomer Adam Colcombe (officially only 1104 !) will be gaining a huge number of rating points for his excellent tournament...
1st - 5.0 points - Kam Chooyin
=2nd - 4.5 points - Gavin Williams, Adam Colcombe
----------------------------------
Junior Section
Ellison had to work hard to overcome Suraj but - as he had several times already in a tough tournament - kept his cool to emerge as outright Junior Champion. A pity Tycho couldn't be there to chase him all the way to the line but also very creditable overall performances to him, Csege and Andrei (of whom more later !)
1st - 5.0 points - Ellison Smith
=2nd - 4.0 points - Tycho Twohig, Csege Hanczar, Andrei Zhuravlev
----------------------------------
Primary Section
A very exciting (in the theoretically critical Traxler Gambit - which was great to see !) game between Andrei and Constantine was effectively the Final in this section. Congratulations to Andrei who managed to take his chance for an early mate in the resulting very sharp position. Unlucky for Constantine but it'll will do him so much good to keep playing games and variations like these.
1st - 4.0 points - Andrei Zhuravlev
=2nd - 3.0 points - Constantine Popov, Lucas Zheng

In conclusion, I think it's fair to say the whole Club Championship idea turned out a big success - over 50 players took part in total and it even helped attract some new members to the club. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves, have some tough games, play some good chess and give themselves something to fight for in the gap between the end of the league season and the start of the summer holidays.
Many, many thanks to all those who helped keep the show on the road along the way - primarily Mo, Duncan, Pete, Alun and Kam but also several others who regularly helped with setting up, putting away etc - it was very much a team effort and we've already started thinking about some new ideas to improve it further next year !
Don't forget the club's AGM on Tuesday next week (same place, Discovery Inn). Come along and have your say about the things the club does next season; teams, coaching etc etc ..... and after that - have a great summer !
Tim
