Club Championship Round 2 Report

Another great evening at the Fynnon Wen (maybe our last one ever ?) saw the tournament really get going with Round 2 out of 7 starting to sort out the pack. About half-a-dozen newcomers (welcome !) replaced a similar number of non-returners (pity !) from Week 1. So we once again had 18 games going on - and 18 winners (not a single game drawn in 2 rounds so far - Grandmasters eat your hearts out !). And the total number of competitors is now up to a brilliant 43.

Fabulous to see some more big strides being made by many of the Juniors - they taking on the adults with growing confidence and this experience will stand them in great stead for league matches next year. Game of the round was Csege Hanczar's win over Alun Smith - calmly refuting an unsound piece sacrifice while Morgan Foulkes enjoyed an exciting, hard-fought win over Rhys Davies and Oliver Cumisky put up a valiant defence against Duncan MacDonald.

This all leaves us with eight players on 2/2 - and they are (in order of seeding)

Tim Kett, Duncan, Dave Llewellyn, Ellison Smith, Josh McKenna, Kam Chooyin, Gavin Williams and Csege

While on 1.5/2 there are five: John McGregor, Simon Blackmore, Tom Davies, Alex Kennedy and Morgan

All to play for with 5 rounds to go. There will be various different prizes - the exact list I hope to announce with next week's report but something for everyone to aim at (as well gaining Welsh rating points).

Next week we move to our new home The Discovery Inn (Celyn Avenue, close to the Lake) which we hope will be a little more spacious, probably accommodating up to 50 people comfortably so .... do all come along ! Hope to see an even bigger crowd next time, whatever score you're on so far or even if you've not played any of the rounds so far. Same time (6.30-6.45 ideally) - All Welcome !

Tim
