Club Championship Round 4 Report

Another small change of venue - being told we had to move into the Dining Room of the The Discovery gave me a bit of a scare at first (!) ..... but luckily there was just enough space for 17 boards and we got through it all successfully.

After three weeks of the Juniors dominating the headlines it was 'Revenge of the Adults' this week with most games between Youth and Experience going the way of Experience ! Csege Hanczar's brilliant run came to a (temporary ?) end despite a very respectable performance on Board 1. Oliver Cumiskey did manage an excellent draw with Alun Smith and I was delighted to see Isaac and Raga register their very well-deserved first wins. Game of the Day though goes to Emyr Roberts for his winning attack against Ellison Smith rated a good 200 points above him.

The top of the Leaderboard has now thinned out - in particular after Dave Llewellyn was unable to cap a very promising build-up and in time trouble allow John McGregor to slip away with the full point. So.... the leading scores are:

4 - Tim Kett

3.5 - Duncan MacDonald and John McGregor

3 - Csege Hanczar, Mark Reckless, Gavin Williams, David Llewellyn, Josh McKenna, Emyr Roberts

2.5 - Oliver Cumiskey, Alun Smith, Suraj Prabhu, Simon Blackmore, Kam Chooyin

(followed by 14 more on 2 points and 20 others below that !)

Apart from Overall 1st, 2nd and 3rd there will also be (non-cash, mostly Prestige !) prizes for Best Junior, Best Primary School player and Best u1700 so lots to keep on fighting for - apart from gaining rating points of course !

Finally do please note that from next week onwards we are going to ask everybody to Confirm in advance Yes or No as to whether they will be playing round by round. Nil responses will be counted as a No ! The plan is then to post the full draw in advance so that everybody will know who they are playing as they arrive at the club. Watch this space (and the Club WhatsApp group) for reminders and instructions about this.

See you all back at The Discovery at 6.45 on Tuesday 4 July.
